Brown Defeats Navy in Season Opener, 36-5

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Senior Saskia Morgan recorded four tries to propel Brown University women's rugby to a 36-5 win at the United States Naval Academy on Saturday at the Brigade Sports Complex.

In the season opener for the Bears (1-0), Morgan scored three tries in the second half alone while seniors Josephine Darpolor (Pecos, Texas) and Uzoamaka Okoro (Darien, Ill.) each added a try.

Morgan opened the game's scoring with a try, and junior Sofia Rudin(Baltimore, Md.) tacked on the conversion to give the Bears a 7-0 lead. Darpolor tallied a try later in the half as Brown brought a 12-0 lead into the break.

In the second half, Morgan posted back-to-back tries, and the Bears made one of two conversions to go ahead 24-0. Okoro and Morgan each charted a try, and senior Rebecca Dahle (Wynnewood, Pa.) registered a conversion to put the visitors up, 36-0. Navy scored a try later in the game but did not make the conversion.

Next, Brown plays at Cornell on Sept. 19 at 11 a.m. The Bears take on their first varsity opponent when the team hosts Harvard on Sept. 26 at 1 p.m.
