Boathouse Sports Official Outfitter of Ivy Rugby Conference through 2017
Philadelphia, PA – Boathouse Sports is proud to announce a renewed agreement through 2017 as the official outfitter of the Ivy Rugby Conference. Ivy Rugby includes all eight rugby teams of the schools of the Ivy League: Brown, Columbia, Cornell, Dartmouth, Harvard, Penn, Princeton and Yale.
Rugby has been played among Ivy League schools since the 1875 Harvard vs. Yale match, the first-ever rugby match played in the United States. Other Ivy League schools quickly followed suit. In the modern era, rugby was played between Ivy schools in the late 1940s and ‘50s during spring break in Bermuda and in an annual tournament from 1969 until 2009. The Ivy Rugby Conference was officially established in 2009 to create a governing organization for the games played between the eight Ivy League schools.
“We are thrilled to be renewing our agreement with Boathouse. The teams of the conference have been very pleased with their product and service – and we are also happy that their product is made in the USA and that Boathouse supports the development of rugby nationally,” said Stephen Siano, President of Ivy Rugby Conference. With the new agreement, Boathouse will be supplying each team with custom designed on-field and sideline apparel through 2017.
Boathouse's rugby uniforms and sideline wear burst on the scene in 2011 and '12 as Dartmouth, wearing Boathouse gear in nationally televised games, won back-to-back USA Sevens Collegiate Rugby Championships.
"It is a privilege for Boathouse to serve these clubs," said Doug Tibbetts, President and Chief Marketing Officer of Boathouse Sports. "These clubs represent the highest level of amateur competition and are composed of premier student athletes. We are thrilled with this affiliation."
