Dartmouth Men 64 - Columbia Men 0

The only major difference for the Big Green the next day against Columbia would be the lack of a rush to get to the field on time. Once again, Clark and Hughes would wreak havoc in the early minutes, with each of them putting in a try stemming from handy catch-pass work from the Big Green interior backs. Their counterpart in the back three, wing and soccer-convert Justin Ciambella ‘13 would soon get in the act as well with a score of his own after a deft pass from co-captain and flyhalf Will Lehmann ’12, to increase the lead to 19-0.

Brown Men 39 - Cornell Men 17

Brown University was able to bounce back from the disappointing loss to Columbia a day earlier to defeat Cornell 39-17.  The 97 points Cornell gave up the day before did not seem to matter on this day as Cornell fought tooth and nail to eventually take their second loss of the Ivy season.

Harvard Men 38 - Penn 17

The HRFC opened up its Ivy League season with a strong showing against Upenn this Saturday. For the first ten minutes of the match, the back three of both Harvard and UPenn struggled to win the battle for field positioning as they volleyed a series of kicks back and forth.

Dartmouth Wins Big at Cornell

As might be expected, Dartmouth had a hot start in their match against Cornell. Aided by tries from fullback Madison Hughes ’15, lock Nate Brakeley ’12, and a pair from wing Kevin Clark ’14, The Big Green jumped out to a 26-0 lead within the first ten minutes, as they were able to go-forward in virtual all of the contact exchanges. The fast start was impressive considering the team only had time for a limited warm-up after the long bus ride in from Hanover.

Two late Tries Propel Columbia over Brown

Down 13-3 late in the contest, Columbia University rallied to defeat Brown late in the match. It was two 65-yard plus breakaway tries by Columbia at 68 minutes and 75 minutes that stole victory from visiting Brown University. In a real turn of fate, the last Columbia intercept for a try came shortly after Brown passed up 3 sure points five meters in front of the Columbia posts.

There was a College 7s Tournament ...

Chester, PA isn’t exactly the Riviera, but the town did the job. PPL Park is a wonderful facility and a beautiful stadium, with comfortable seats and a nice roof for the fans so they don’t bake or soak. The stadium is right on the Delaware River under the shadow of the Commodore Barry Bridge, which provides a lovely setting.
