Posted: 02/17/2015Making a Splash in the Desert: Dartmouth at the Las Vegas Invitational
This past weekend, DRFC captain Madison Hughes led the Eagles to a top four finish at the USA 7s in Las Vegas, including a draw with perennial powerhouse South Africa, and a shutout of North American nemesis Canada. During this celebration of rugby in the desert, the DRFC competed admirably in the collegiate bracket of the Las Vegas Sevens Invitational.

Brown women’s rugby Head Coach Kathy Flores was named as USA Rugby Female Coach of the Year at the USA Rugby National Development Summit.
In the program's inaugural season at the varsity level, Flores led the formidable Brown squad to a 9-1 overall record, including a perfect 7-0 mark against Ivy League opponents. The Bears went on to defeat Dartmouth 42-5 in the Ivy Championship match.

The 2015 High Performance Coaching Conference took place Jan. 17-18 at Southern Connecticut State University in New Haven. Next Level Rugby’s Ryan Ginty interviewed Yale Director of Rugby and featured speaker Greg McWilliams about the conference, the immediate future of the Yale Rugby program and ways to grow the game in Connecticut and around the country.
On the docket for Yale is a training trip to New Zealand and South American tour. Also coming up this spring for the Bulldogs: The Connecticut Cup and Division 1 AA Ivy Playoffs.

We regret to announce sad news about a member of the Dartmouth Rugby family. Tim Dunning, who was the President of the DRFC in 1994, passed way last Monday, January 12, 2015. Tim has been described by his coach and teammates over the past few days as extraordinarily dedicated to both the DRFC and the sport of rugby and as someone you would always want by your side in any battle.

During a recent rugby tournament at Dartmouth between the schools of the Ivy League, a successful goal kick by Penn Women’s Rugby Football Club fly-half Sophia Hu was met with an unusual reaction from the rest of the team. Rather than applauding and shouting encouragement, Hu’s teammates could be seen waving and twisting their arms in the air.

The maneuver is known as “deaf applause,” and for Hu, who has been deaf since birth, it was a special moment.

Colin Walmsley '15, a center on the Dartmouth men’s rugby team, will study anthropology at Oxford University as Dartmouth’s 78th Rhodes Scholar, the university announced this week.
Following his studies, Walmsley, of Fort Macleod, Canada, hopes to "work as an advocate for human social justice and fairness," according to his Rhodes Scholars profile.
At the College, Walmsley is an anthropology and government double major. He plays for the rugby team, hosts a weekly radio show on 99 Rock and sings with the Brovertones a capella group.
Posted: 12/02/2014Jay Fluck Inducted into Brown Athletic Hall of Fame
Longtime Brown rugby coach Linton A. “Jay” Fluck was elected to the Brown University Athletic Hall of Fame at a ceremony on Nov. 8, 2014.
Fluck, along with Dave Zucconi (’55) coached the Bears from 1980-2009, posting a 315-230-12 record. During his tenure, the Bears won eight Ivy tournament titles and qualified for nationals in 1996, finishing the season ranked #8 nationally. In 1984, Fluck led Brown to victory at the New York 7s, one of the most competitive tournaments in the country.
