Penn Men Win a Thriller Over Columbia
Display on Match Boxes at Top of Page:

In arguably the most exciting match of the Ivy Rugby Conference season, the Penn Men's Rugby Club was able to pull out a thriller at home over Columbia. The action went back and forth all day - every time Columbia scored, Penn was able to respond quickly with a score of their own. This back and forth led the score to be 22-21 going into the final minutes of play. It was looking as though that might be the final score when was able to break the Columbia defense near the end of regulation for a try to put them up 26-22. The win was huge for Penn.

Harvard @ Dartmouth (W)

Harvard Women’s Varsity Rugby entered the first week of Ivy Rugby Conference Tier I play with a mixed record and a few question marks.  An easy win against Yale in last week’s cross-tier Ivy match-ups boosted confidence, but the previous week’s tough pre-season loss to varsity rival Quinnipiac and a disappointing loss to Ivy rival Dartmouth in the Ivy Rugby Playoffs last April loomed in recent memory.

Dartmouth (M) Shuts Out Brown 50-nil

Dartmouth returned home this weekend for their first meeting of the season with Ivy North rival Brown.  The Bears had proved to be the Big Green’s stiffest league competition in recent years, forcing a draw oat Dartmouth's Brophy Field last year. Knowing the Bears to be a tough and worthy opponent, Dartmouth went into the match looking to implement the systems they’d worked on in training and improve from the week before.  The Big Green established control early and didn’t look back on their way to a 50-0 victory in front of the home crowd.

In a game in which both possession and scoring were dominated by the winning side, the Penn Women's Rugby Club was able to pull out a victory on the road at Yale.  Penn wasted no time putting points on the board, scoring their first try within the first two and a half minutes of the game and never looking back - the Quakers scored four unanswered tries within the first 26 minutes of the match.Yale was able to generate some offense by putting two tries on the board before the half, but the high-powered offense of Penn proved to be too much for the Bulldogs who dropped their second m

Cornell came into this week's with their first division lead since 2005. After all was said and done, they managed to come through the other side while retaining possession of first place - but not without having to face off against a physical Penn team that made the game even closer than the final score of 21-12 would suggest.
