1st XV Columbia Women at Brown Women

Brown women moved to 3-0 in league play with a 58-0 win over Columbia. Brown scored 45 seconds into the match when wing Shakeela Faulkner '12 took a beautiful pass from Chelsea Garber and raced 30 meters in to score. Minutes later center Michelle VanderPloeg '12 scored the first of her 3 try's. Ploeg took a beautiful pass from Elizabeth StanIcoff '12 who burst through the Columbia defense off the kick-off and raced 50 meters before drawing the last defender and dishing the ball to Ploeg, Chelsea converted and Brown led 12-0.

In the 12th minute Michelle VanderPloeg scored her second try off a beautiful series of passes, Chelsea converted and Brown led 19-0. Scrum half Blair Station '12 kept up the pressure supporting a break by Shakeela Faulkner and scoring in the corner, Brown 24-0. Center Blaine Martin '11.5 was next to light it up striking through the middle and racing in for the try, Brown 29-0. Flanker Vanessa Munoz '13 put on a big burst of speed and left the Columbia defense in the dust, Chelsea converted and Brown led 36-0. Thirty minutes in captain Chelsea Garber put a deep chip to wing Patti Epko '15 who gathered the ball in and was brought down on the Columbia 5 meter line - off the ensuing ruck Chelsea took the ball off the back of the ruck and dove over for the score, she converted her try and Brown led 43-0. Center Michelle Vanderploeg got her hat trick minutes before the half bursting through the middle from 30 meters out to score under the posts, Chelsea converted and Brown led 50-0.

After the half, wing Patti Epko took the corner and raced 30 meters for the try, Brown led 55-0. Brown was able to substitute a number of players - the enthusiasm and energy from the team was inspiring. The Brown attack stayed intense with center Erica Florenz '13 applying the pressure, Erica finished out the match hitting a penalty kick for a 58-0 Brown win.

Next Saturday Brown takes on Harvard. The match kicks off at 10am at Marvel Field.
