Cornell Men Look Strong in 44-19 Win Over Princeton

Saturday, October 12, 2013

Cornell has proven to be the dominant team in the Ivy Rugby Conference's Southern Division this fall. After a convincing 44-19 win over Princeton this weekend, it's easy to see why people are predicting big things for the Big Red.

The game started off in extremely close fashion, with Cornell and Princeton both finding open gaps in their oppositions' defenses. The score was knotted up at 12-12 when a key Nick St. John play set up an Andrew Sapozink try to put Cornell up 17-12. While Princeton kept it close with some physical defensive play, Cornell found their groove and kept up the scoring to put the game away. Princeton had some opportunities at the try line but Cornell provided stout defensive pressure to keep them off the board. Princeton is sure to be unhappy with the final result, but this was hardly a blowout and the scoreboard doesn't reflect the effort and determination they showed against a talented Cornell squad riding a season-long hot streak.
