Harvard Women Win Ivy Championship, Shut Out Dartmouth 29-0

Sunday, November 3, 2013

In one of the most hard-fought matches of the entire season, the Harvard Women's Rugby Team defeated #1 seed Dartmouth to win the Fall 2013 Ivy Rugby Championship. Harvard put their first try of the game on the board just six minutes in and didn't look back from there; the Crimson were up 12-0 at half, and finished the day with a 29-0 shutout win.

Sunday's match was proof that sometimes, the scoreboard can be deceptive. Despite not managing to put any points on the board, Dartmouth played a solid game from whistle to whistle. There were several opportunities for the Big Green to score, including when Audrey Perez '17 came within a meter of scoring a try, but the Harvard defense proved to be too much.

While Dartmouth deserves a lot of credit for their phenomenal season, the day belonged to a Harvard team that showed a lot of mental toughness coming into the game. Facing off against the #1 seed at their home field put them at a decided disadvantage on paper. Strong team play as well as a refusal to let the Big Green score ultimately put them on top in one of the best games of the year.

Congratulations to Harvard, the Champion of the Fall 2013 Women's Ivy Rugby Conference Season.
