Yale’s Push for National Title Halted by WVU

The Yale RFC fell to West Virginia in the D1AA East Regional quarterfinals in Pittsburgh on April 25. The Bulldogs were the surprise qualifier at the regional Elite 8 level after defeating Brown in the Ivy Tournament. 

Yale struck first with Graham Harboe breaking through for the game’s first try. After that it was all West Virginia as the Mountaineers scored 17 unanswered points before halftime. Yale kept the pressure on throughout but was met with an outstanding defensive effort from WVU, who would pad their lead in the second half for a final of 29-8. 

In the consolation game, Yale fell to King’s Point 34-24. The Bulldogs showed poise and grit in their first-ever trip to the D1AA nationals. 

Sixth-seeded Yale upset Cornell and Brown to win the Ivy Championship on April 4.
