USA 7s Collegiate Rugby Championship

Saturday, June 1, 2013

The USA 7s Collegiate Rugby Championship tournament, slated for 2013 in Philadelphia, has released a list of 19 of the 20 teams that will participate in next year's tournament. The list includes two teams from the Ivy Rugby Conference. Dartmouth, two-time defending champion and 2012 Ivy Rugby Conference champion, will return to try to 3-peat in 2013. The University of Pennsylvamia, with their recent crowning as Ivy South champion and runner-up in the Ivy Sevens Championships was also invited.

The CRC will once again be broadcast live by NBC and its affiliate sports networks. Among the big pieces of news is that the CRC has been expanded to 20 teams from the 16 that participated in 2010, 2011, and 2012.

Expanding to 20 teams has allowed the CRC some leeway in their invitations, and they have expanded their Pennsylvania reach by the inclusion of perennial 7s challengers Kutztown University, Ivy-Leaguers University of Pennsylvania and local favorites St. Joseph's University.

Due to their great performance in the Ivy 7s Tournament, Penn has been invited to the Collegiate Rugby Championships (CRC).  The CRC is held outside Philadelphia at PPL Park each June.  The Tournament is a two day event - Saturday and Sunday.

Two-time defending champions Dartmouth College return for another shot. The Big Green will be playing in their fourth-straight CRC.
