1st XV Cornell Men at Colgate

We had a very exciting week of practice and the intensity kept up in pre-game warm-ups.

The start of the game we came out a little nervous and tentative and that showed with Colgate striking first on a 50 Meter breakaway score.  We did not hang our heads and we answered with a 4 minute drive of our own which ended in a score from about 4 meters out, out of a scrum from President and Senior Andrew Foraker.
Our brilliant play continued with 2 more quick scores off a fastbreak from 3 great passes from Mullary, Krenzer, and Warren to get it out to our wing Peirce.  Then on the kickoff we returned it all the way with our speedy long legged forward Russel.

The first half we played decent rugby with the end of the half ending with a 19-17 lead.  Colgate kept fighting and ended the first half with 2 scores to make it close.

Cornell came out hungry and with a mission of gaining back control of the game.  Good passing, and great defense is what solidified a 9th straight Claret Cup victory for the Big Red.  Cornell scored 11 points and gave up 0 in the second half and proved that they are to be respected in the Ivy League this year.

Colgate had great numbers, and a strong team, they are a very fast team.  I was impressed with there numbers and the overall event of the day.  We started with a ceremonial coin toss with there new president, fallowed by the National Anthem.  Colgate has proved to be a great host and I hope this yearly match to kick off the pre season continues for years to come.
