Brown University Women 62 ­- Yale University Women 0

Brown hosted Yale and made quick work of the Bulldogs scoring two trys in the first 8 minutes on route to a 62 point win. The match was the home opener and first league match of the season.

Flanker Michelle Un ‘11 opened the scoring with a nice 10 meter burst through a disorganized Yale defense, center Alicia Hartley ‘10 scored next picking off an errant Yale pass and racing 80 yards for the try, Chelsea Garber ‘12 converted to give Brown a 12-0 lead. Garber followed moments later with a nice try and converted, Brown 19-0. Chelsea struck again at the 20th minute sending a beautiful kick to a charging Blaine Martin ‘10 on the wing, Blaine gathered in the kick and raced 40 yards for the score. Blaine struck again at 30 minutes fielding a Yale clearing kick and racing down the touch line for the score, Chelsea Garber converted and Brown led 31-0. Moments later hooker Rachel Sohl scored off a nice forward series and Brown went into the half leading 38-0.

Scrumhalf Blair Station ‘12 opened the second half dodging through the Yale defense for what appeared to be a try ­ but Yale was able to get under the ball, off the ensuing scrum #8 Sian Kieran ‘10 and Blair combined to put the ball over and give Brown a 43-0 lead. Flanker Israelle McKinnon ‘11 was the next to score, bolting through the Yale defense for a nice try, Chelsea Garber converted. Sian Kiernan scored off a beautiful backrow move. Flyhalf Chelsea Garber continued her impressive point total scoring getting off a nice chip over the Yale line, Chelsea gathered the ball in and slid over the line for the try, Chelsea converted and the match ended with a 62-0 Brown win. Brown moves to 4-0-1 on the season.

Brown Bs 17 ­ Yale Bs 7 The Brown Bs came out fired up to take on a mixed A-B Yale side. Center Vanessa Munoz ‘13 opened the scoring taking a nice ball and racing 30 yards through the Yale line to put Brown up 5-0. The Brown team was almost entirely rookie players and they showed no fear attacking the bigger Yale line. Inside center Vicky Adewale ‘13 raced 50 yards for the next score dusting 4 Yale tacklers as she raced for the line. Prop Jacqui Silva ‘10 brought the crowd to its feet as she took a blocked kick and raced 80 yards down the sideline for the score and a 17-0 Brown lead. Yale responded late in the second half with a score but the Brown Bs had the game in hand 17-7.

Next week Brown takes on Dartmouth.
