Brown and Yale make it to Day 2 of the CRC

Brown, along with Yale, makes it through to day 2

After Day One of the USA 7s Collegiate Rugby Championship qualifier pool play, 16 teams remain in the Cup Round.

Bracket A

In Bracket A, Kutztown, Miami of Ohio and Air Force all ended the day 3-0. They are ranked according to point differencial, with Miami takings the #1 seed followed by KU and then Air Force. Three teams, UCLA, Delaware and New Mexico, all finished 2-1. Delaware takes the #4 seed with a +89 points differential, followed by New Mexico and then UCLA.

UCLA had a shot to end the day 3-0 but lost 19-7 to Kutztown in a game UCLA Coach Scott Stewart said they played well enough to win. "We had a try called back and we played well, but it didn't happen; frustrating," he said.

Whittier and Brown finished 1-2 but were the best two 1-2 teams based on points difference. Whittier is #7 and Brown #8.

Bracket B

In Bracket B, Central Washington was outstanding in going 3-0 and winning their pool. Bowling Green looked strong in going 3-0. In the third pool Yale bounced back from a troucning to UC Davis to beat Nebraska and go 2-1. Davis and Claremont Colleges also finished 2-1, leaving the three to be separated by points difference. Davis was +58, Yale +15 and Claremont -24. Davis and Yale move on.

Texas won by forefeit over a late Creighton and 17-0 over St. Joseph's to win their pool. Then Creighton showed up in time to defeat St. Joseph's 17-14 to finish 2nd in their pool.

"The team has been playing well," said Central Washington Coach Bob Ford. "We integrated our 7s training into our 15s and the whole squad bought into it - supporting the guys who did the work and earned their way here. We were going to take 12 but took 13 because our 12th and 13th players worked so hard to get here."
