Dow Travers, Brown University 7s Try Scorer

Brown 7s Squad Set for Vegas

On February 10-11, just outside the Las Vegas USA 7s stadium, Vegas will also host a Collegiate 7s CRC Qualifier, with the winner earning a spot at the CRC in Philadelphia, which will be broadcast once again on NBC.

Brown University has put its chips all in. Brown's head coach David LaFlamme has been "working the boys hard" back in Providence, RI as Brown hopes to grab that free pass to the CRC in June. "Eight out of the 12 selected Brown student athletes to attend this weekend are in the running for All-Ivy," chimed in LaFlamme in a recent interview.

The Yale rugby team has entered a side into the Las Vegas 7s this weekend. The winner of this weekend's tournament will take the last opening in the Rugby 7s Championships to be played in Philadelphia and aired on NBC in early June.

Rugby in America: Worth a try

THIS weekend tens of millions of eyes will be glued to television screens as the Pittsburgh Steelers meet the Green Bay Packers in the Super Bowl, which takes place in Arlington, Texas on February 6th. American aficionados of rugby union can only dream of the Croesian sums of money that are lavished on American football, a sport that vaguely resembles rugby in wimpish armour-plating. But although their resources are far more modest they have achieved some notable successes.

Buzz McClain Reviews Rugby Movie ‘Play On’

Play on The Movie

“PLAY ON” Receives Great Critical Feedback

“It’s not always what you do that matters.  It’s what you do next.  Get up.  Play on”.  So goes the tagline from the latest full-length feature production to join the ranks of rugby movies like “Invictus” and “Forever Strong”. The film “Play On” was made possible largely through the efforts of two Dartmouth Rugby alumni; Dave Story Class of ’85 directed and co-wrote the film, while Class of ’87 alum and former USA 7’s Captain Al Dekin co-wrote and produced the movie.

The Ivy League

Ivy League is the name generally applied to eight universities (Brown, Columbia, Cornell, Dartmouth, Harvard, Pennsylvania, Princeton, and Yale) that over the years have had common interests in scholarship as well as in athletics. Stanley Woodward, New York Herald Tribune sports writer, coined the phrase in the early thirties.
