Brown faced a formidable opponent and another adversary in the driving wind, rain and 45 degree temperatures at match time. URI always has size and athleticism, but the weather foiled the Rams while Brown was able to use its team pattern, speed and commitment to win the match.

Columbia Rugby’s Toughest Challenge?

2011 marks Columbia University Rugby Football Club’s fiftieth year, and the team is celebrating by doing what they’ve been doing for the past half-century: playing rugby. More specifically, they’re pitting the Old Boys against the young—the fat and out of shape against those with decades of practice at being fat and out of shape. Ever the sentimentalist, I flew back to the Morningside Heights campus to sit down with the current team and get their opinions on this hallowed milestone.

The four teams in each pool played round robin matches. Then, based on their order of finish in pool play, the teams from Pools A&B faced off (1v1), (2v2), (3v3) and (4v4) to establish the Ivy Champion and final standings.
