Dartmouth blanks Harvard to clinch Ivy title

Dartmouth started off facing into a stiff wind on this blustery October Saturday.  The Green received the first kick, and it quickly became clear that the match would be physical, with Harvard contesting Dartmouth possession at every ruck.  Senior fullback Carl Zehner ’11 was first to score, running in a try off of a brilliant transition line break.  Derek Fish ’12 found the posts, and the Green were up 7-0 early on in the half.  After some back-and-forth possession, a knock-on brought about a scrum where the Green pack were able to steal possession, putting the ball in Will Lehmann

Yale sets the tone early, Dan O'Brien scores and the try is converted by Ryan Vandersloot 3 minutes into the match.  Penn fights back and hits a penalty kick.  In minutes 17, 26, and 36, Yale scores 3 converted tries down the side line.

In the second half, Penn tightened up it defense.  Penn scores a converted try in the 15th minute.  Yale responds with converted tries in the 21st and 40th minute.

Harvard began the match attacking into a gale force wind which slowed them out of the gate. Backs had difficulty putting a foot on the ball and knock ons plagued both sides for the first half. Harvard’s forward pack, on the other hand, was dominant winning both side’s scrums with authority.
