Columbia hosts Wildcard Weekend November 6 and 7

Dartmouth won all seven of their Ivy League matches over the 2010 season outscoring their opponents 436 to 30 and earning the Ivy League Championship honors for the fourth consecutive year. With their dominance of Ivy League competition, Dartmouth has been awarded a spot in the USA Rugby Collegiate Premier League, slated to compete in the spring of 2011.

Harvard Claims Ivy Bid to Nationals in Wildcard Final

Baker Field, New York, NY - With their 32-13 win over Brown in final of Sunday’s Ivy Playoffs, Harvard won the right to represent the Ivy League in next Spring’s Division I Collegiate Championship.

Dartmouth (7-0) won the 2010 Ivy Championship outright and will move on to USA Rugby’s Premier League in the Spring. The Ivy teams ranked 2, 3, 4 and 5 then came to NYC to battle for the Division I slot.

Dartmouth Wins 4th Consecutive Ivy League Rugby Championship

Hanover, NH – Dartmouth brought their fall Ivy season to a close with decisive win over an athletic Harvard side. Dartmouth and the perennially strong Harvard have met in the Ivy League finals several years running, and although this Saturday’s match did not represent a playoff final, it was the last of a seven game round-robin season with the other Ivy League schools.

Cornell Women New York State Champions with a 39-10 win over Buffalo

Cornell and Buffalo finished the New York State league season as the top two women’s DI colleges. Both were guaranteed entry into the Northeast Elite 8 (as well as third-place winner Brockport), so what was on the line other than seed? Well, bragging rights, of course.

Cornell returned the New York State title to its possession with a 39-10 win over Buffalo. To sweeten the deal, Cornell did it all behind its player-coaches Talia Baker and Christine Sargent.

Bears Second XV Feasts on Bulldogs

Brown beat Yale 17-3. Peter Kentros’14 made a nice run in the first half to give Brown a 5-0 halftime lead. The second half saw center John Goddard’13 break through the Yale backline for a try and then prop Mike Donnell’12 made a weaving 30 meter run for Brown’s final try. Fly half Blair Cameron’13 converted for the last of Brown’s 17 points. Yale’s points came from a penalty kick in the second half.

University of Buffalo qualifies for the D1 playoffs

As the D1 playoff picture begins to take shape in the Ivies, the University of Buffalo clinched the top spot in the New York State Conference. Columbia will host the Wildcard playoffs on November 7 and 7 at Baker Field on the campus of Columbia University to determine the Ivy League Rugby Conference D1 representative for the spring. The Ivy second seed Columbia will take on 5th seed Brown, while Harvadr (3) will match up against Yale (4) also at Baker. Columbia will also host the finals on Sunday.

Harvard 1st XV defeat Yale 10-6

In a match between two of America’s finest schools, Harvard came from behind to score a try 29 minutes into the second to defeat Yale 10-6. Harvard dominated territorially for the first quarter but was off target with two penalty goals.

Yale was off target on a penalty goal in the 18th minute but Eli fullback Mac Hull finally drew first blood with a kick in the 24th minute, 3-0.

Harvard went into intermission with a 5-3 lead when wing Will Peck touched down in the 40th minute.

Second Half

Brown 42 Columbia 17 - on to the Wildcard Finals

Paced by two tries apiece from Dan Levine-Spound and Greg Karwasky, and nine points off the boot of Manfredo Koelliker, Brown defeated Columbia 42-17 and moved into the Ivy Playoff final. Brown opened the scoring in the fifth minute with a penalty goal by Koelliker but Columbia took the lead back eight minutes later when scrumhalf David Lynch crossed for a try from five meters out, 5-3.

Brown went ahead 13-5 when hooker Levine-Spound scored consecutive tries in the in the 16th and 21st minutes.

Men's Collegiate Division 1 Playoff Structure Finalized

USA Rugby has finalized the 2010-2011 playoff structure for Collegiate Men’s Division I. The new structure was necessitated due to the massive restructure of the top-tier of college rugby after the launch of the Division I Premier Division.
