College Premier D1 Schedule set for Dartmouth

USA Rugby recently released the 2011 College Division I Premier Championship schedule. The inaugural season of the Premier Championship will kickoff on March 5 with a slate of games that includes the Ivy League's Dartmouth and the University of Delaware facing off in Wilmington, Delaware.

The regular season for the new 31-team competition will run through April 30.  Post-season play starts on May 7 with the top two teams from each conference advancing to the playoffs. The championship final will be played on May 21.

Two Ivy League Champions in 2010?!

Changes are-a-brewing in USA collegieate rugby lately which positively affects the newly-formed Ivy League Rugby Conference. First, Dartmouth College Rugby Club has opted in to their invitation to participate in the inaugural season of USA Rugby’s Division I Premier Championship which kicks off this Spring (see College D1 Schedule set for Dartmouth).

Steve Sable, Morgan McGowan, Eamon Molloy, and Chris Morris assume coaching duties

We announce with regret that Head Coach Tonee Labar must step down from his coaching responsibilities for the remainder of the season for undisclosed personal reasons.  We wish Tonee all the best and hope that the issues are resolved quickly.  In the meantime, local alumni Steve Sable, Morgan McGowan, Eamon Molloy, and Chris Morris and Faculty Advisor Dexter Kozen will assume coaching duties temporarily for the remainder of the fall season.

Dartmouth Sweeps Weekend At Home

Hanover, NH – This weekend was another successful one for the Big Green.  Dartmouth rugby faced two more Ivy League opponents at home, adding two more wins to their strong season.

Brown’s Second XV Ends Weekend on High Note

Three first half tries gave Brown a cushion that Columbia was unable to overcome as Center Henry Bruce’12 scored on a backline move from a scrum at 10 minutes, center Louis Solomonson’13 scored from a ruck at 20 minutes and scrum half Dan Tondreys’14, just before halftime, made a long break but was caught just short of the line where number 8, Zach Long’13 secured the ruck ball and scored for 15 Brown points.

Columbia scored one unconverted first half try and got the only second half score but Brown’s lead held up for the win.

Let's Play Two - 1st XV Ivy League Matches on tap this weekend

It a road trip for Penn (1-3), Cornell (1-3), Princeton (1-3) and Columbia (3-1) as they all will board buses Saturday morning to the coaches chant of "let's play two!" Cornell and Columbia will face Brown (1-3) and Dartmouth (4-0), while Penn and Princeton will head north to play Harvard (3-1) and Yale (2-2).

In addition, Yale Women visit Brown and Cornell Women travels to Syracuse.

Derek Fish leads Dartmouth over Big Red 74-5

Hanover, NH  - Dartmouth continued its march to the 2010 Ivy League title with its sixth straight win: a 74-5 thrashing of visiting Cornell. In so doing, Dartmouth’s record improved to 6-0, while Cornell’s declined to 1-5.

Derek Fish led all Dartmouth scorers with 24 points (2 tries, 7 conversions); while Ian Hogg led the Dartmouth’s try scorers with three.

Dartmouth went out 48-0 halftime lead (8 tries, 4 conversions) and scored 26 more points (4 tries, 3 conversions) following intermission.

60th Anniversary Weekend A Success for Dartmouth

October 9, Hanover, NH – Dartmouth was able to test the limits of the new 1959 Touring Squad Scoreboard this weekend in their first Ivy home match of the year against Brown. Meanwhile, on the sidelines 60th anniversary celebration was in full swing.  More than 150 former players, their family members, and guests attended the event to celebrate multiple generations of Dartmouth rugby excellence on and off the field.

New to our rankings this week are New Mexico and Columbia, both of which have been quietly beavering away in their respective regions to compile winning records. They enter the rankings at the expense of North Carolina and Georgia.
